Steve and I have been married almost 9 years. It's insane to me! We've been friends for 22 years and have been a couple for 14.
I'm super proud of what we've accomplished together. Especially our girls - who are the light of my life!
Anyway, we have a big anniversary coming up!
Next year we will celebrate being married for an entire DECADE.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK.
How on Earth am I old enough to be married for a decade?
It's gone by so fast...it's truly incredible.
After having kids is when I realized time is just so fleeting.
I have always wanted to do a big trip to celebrate our 10 year anniversary.
But big trips = big money.
Big money spent on us just doesn't feel right. We joked back on our honeymoon that we should go back to Bora Bora for our 10 year anniversary trip.
YEAH FUCKING RIGHT.
That trip was about $14,000 for just the two of us. (Think overwater bungalows)
No way I'm shelling out that kind of cash for kids who won't know the difference between a sandy beach in Bora Bora and a sandy beach in Florida! Ha!
After some deliberation (of my own), I brought up the idea to Steve that we should drive down the coast of California for our 10 year anniversary.
He was in.
Neither of us have done it before.
Our plan is to fly to Las Vegas and spend a couple of days there with my parents and our kids. I'm also trying to get my sister to go at the same time to help the grandparents.
Leave the kids with my parents (they will have to split time with the kids - fuck divorce) and Aunt Jennifer.
Fly to San Francisco and visit with Steve's sister Lisa and her family for a day. (We are trying to figure out a way to have the kids do this visit too...but not sure. Lisa has several cats and my kids will literally die if they are around cat - allergies. So still more coordination to figure out here).
We will then rent a car and start the drive down Highway 1.
The goal is to visit these cities on the way down Highway 1:
1. Santa Cruz
2. Monterey
3. Big Sur
4. San Simeon
Spend the night?
Then head to:
5. Santa Barbara
6. Santa Barbara Zoo
7. Ventura
8. Malibu
9. Santa Monica
Spend the night
10. Long Beach
11. San Diego
Stay in San Diego for 2 nights
Drive back to Las Vegas and spend another night there.
Fly home to Rochester.
My plan is that we will depart on Saturday, May 23 and get back into Rochester around June 2 or 3.
That's the plan! Figured if I got it down on the blog, there's more of a chance we'll actually do it. LOL.
No really, I'm REALLY trying to make this work. It's our 10 year anniversary for fuck's sake! The fact that I love this man more and more each day, each month, each year - I really want to celebrate this.
Follow me as I learn to navigate life as a single mom of two kids. Starting over at the ripe age of 42. Here we go!
