Looking Forward to Fall

Don't get me wrong.

I love summer as much as the next person.

But, there's just something about crisp, cool mornings at our house.

This morning we woke up to gorgeous fog that was hanging low - we always tell the girls that a cloud fell and came down on us :)

The evenings are crisp, but not so cool we close the windows. So there's a nice breeze that come through. The house feels fresher some how.

The mornings are crisp and dewy.

The leaves are starting to change.

The smell outside is starting to smell like bonfires.

Pumpkins are out.

I dunno, there's just something special about Fall in Western NY.

The temps have been in the 60's and 70's (with some crazy days in the 80's this week).

Ruple Farms - fall swimming
It wasn't too cold for these crazy kids to go swimming! It was legit like 65 degrees outside.
The water was freezing!

We took some time over the weekend to get our coop up and running properly. We are "getting ready" for winter if you want to say that. Living out here, there's a LOT to prep for to be ready for winter.
Ruple Farms - coop camera
We put a camera out in the coop so we can keep an eye on them. We've lost several chickens this year and we're trying to figure out how they are getting out.

Ruple Farms - coop
We may move the automatic chicken door to the main door, to keep critters out. We've found that if some chickens don't make it in time, they get locked out and then are susceptible to predators.

I know it'll only be a few days before it's consistently cold and dreary. I'm hoping Fall lasts a while like it did last year (or was that the year before?)

We may be getting new baby chicks, so I'll need to figure out a way to keep them warm once we move them out - since it'll be winter by then.

We also did some "fall cleaning" if you will. I told Steve I wanted new baby chicks and he said if we could help him clean out the basement, we could!

Ruple Farms - clean basement
I'd say that's pretty clean!

Ruple Farms - clean basement - girls running
The girls enjoyed running around the huge space and then doing this. Steve and Lisa used to do this too!
