Working Out - 44 Weeks Into My Fitness Journey

This post will not be a typical workout post.

That's because starting at week 41 and 4 days, I will not be working out.

I won't be for at least 3 weeks due to a surgical procedure I got done on April 5.

Nothing major, just a little outpatient surgery.

During this time I will need to focus on recovery, making sure that I'm eating nutritious meals, and making sure my body has what it needs to heal.

I worked out as normal until 2 days before my surgery. Just to give my body time to relax before being put through any trauma.

I should be able to start light legs about 3 weeks after - depending on how I'm feeling. I'm not supposed to sweat or raise my heart rate for 3 weeks.

That will be tough! I hope I can at least walk around to keep my body moving.

At the time of this writing, I only have 5 more days of "rest" before I can start up again.

I plan to start back up my lower body and not just jump in full force. I plan to start with bodyweight.

I will also not go back to everyday workouts. I will make sure to have a rest day in between for a while and not do consecutive days unless my body can handle it. I don't want to do too much too fast.

I have actually (I think) maintained my weight even though I've been eating like shit basically and am so sedentary and it's so different from how I was before.

I definitely feel sluggish and bloated. The bloat from surgery is NO JOKE!

3 days after surgery I was 5lbs heavier than when I went in. LOL.

I'm definitely not concerned because I know it's bloat and extra fluid. And I know I'll likely put on a couple pounds over the course of a few weeks if I can't work out like I want to.

That being said, we are now about 10 weeks out from our vacation.

I plan on using these 10 weeks to get my body back to at least where it was pre-surgery. I'm going to take this very seriously and make sure I'm feeling the best I can before we go.

Most people train and get ready for a competition. I'm getting ready for vacation. I think I can do it.

I hope my muscles don't just shrink away. I worked so hard to get where I am.

Closing in on week 44 here.

The first two weeks I was very focused on recovery. I'd say by day 6 I was feeling pretty good with normal life activities, but of course being mindful of movements, etc.

Now that I'm officially past 2 weeks, I'm starting to get ANTSY.

Like, each day I wake up and am disappointed that I can't work out yet.

I also admit that I've been eating like shit the last two weeks. I thought I'd be good and try to maintain because I'm so sedentary while recovery.

BUT, I'm using it as an excuse. "When I can work out again I'll stop eating like shit"

I literally said that out loud.

So, starting TODAY - a full week before I can raise my heart rate and start working out again, I'm going to be super mindful of what I eat.

I bought a bunch of salad this weekend so I can set myself up for success with lunches.

I've started noting what workouts I want to start with, all lower body at this point, but what I want to rotate and be realistic with how much I can actually do.

Leg day is hard! And then I'm suffering from DOMS for like 3 days afterward. 😂

But, it's ok. I'm OK with training legs and glutes and focusing on them for 3 weeks straight.

I need to up my protein (what's new?) but I haven't been drinking my shakes as much lately since I really want to save it for post-workout shakes and muscle building.

I've saved a few workouts that I'm excited to try out.

I've gained several pounds already. Right after surgery, I was 117lbs (5lbs of water/fluids immediately) and then hovered around 114/115.

10 weeks till vacation.

10 weeks to GRIND, people.

Let's do this.
