Especially when it's a bank.
I've only ever worked for privately owned companies, usually owned by one to three people. The largest company I've worked for was like 100 people at its max.
I never, everrrrrr thought I'd work for a national organization with over 18,000 employees.
But my team? It feels like a start up. We are about 80 people deep with all the different verticals, but my specific team is like 10 people. And I've worked with 3 of them in a past life!
Anyway, after an amazing 3 day trip to Boston last week, I've been spending my time getting settled and organized.
The first day in Boston was nothing short of amazing. I met some of my team and man, I feel very lucky! I was welcomed with open arms and smiling faces.
Everyone was helpful.
The Tech Bar helped me get everything set up on my phone, which I hear is a fucking nightmare if you're not getting direct support.
It's literally a bar with Tech/IT people there to help you. (It's also conveniently located directly across from the cafe where there is food/bev available for purchase. Like croissants and coffee.) |
Super cute presentation/meeting area. I love the aesthetics. |
Digging right in to 2023 planning |
Team Awards! |
LOL. New Kid On The Block Award since it was my first day! |
New Quarter zip! Love it! |
We ended that first night with pizza (FROM WEGMANS!) and some games and such. We called it a night around 8pm and headed back to the hotel.Day 2 started at 9am with another round of meetings and group activities.
We were able to work as a team on actual jobs and my boss provided statuses to the new team members who were there (me and one other girl).
We also got headshots done in the morning with the in-house photographer. Super easy and convenient!
The day went by rather quickly and before we knew it, it was time to head to dinner. We went to a Ramen place and I had a really good chicken rice bowl. I wished it had included more white meat chicken, but whatever. Still good!
Some of the team went to the hotel bar to hang for a bit after we got back but I didn't feel like it. Looking back I probably should've just sucked it up and hung out for a bit to get to know people...but I can't go back and change it now. Just gotta remember for next time! If only people knew I went to bed at like 8pm in real life lol...
Day 3 started earlier because I needed help to get my direct deposit set up and my equipment ordered. I wanted to make sure that got squared away before I left the people who could help me!
We ran into a couple of snafus like forgetting to change the shipping address. Oops. My stuff was being sent to the corporate office instead of my house!
So, we ended up canceling and reordering. I did get my direct deposit set up and that was super easy. Everything is on the Intranet and pretty user-friendly.
We actually had a few meetings this day before needing to head to the airport by 11:30am. My flight was at 1:40 and who knew what Boston traffic would be like.
Turns out it was fine and I got to the airport with plenty of time.
PHEW! Three days in Boston were a whirlwind and super fun! It was SO nice to reconnect with familiar faces and it was awesome meeting new ones.
I'm SO pumped to be a part of this team and to get my feet settled. Starting week 2: the rest of my equipment showed up Sunday, so I was able to get it set up before starting my second week. My first full week "in the office" and not traveling.

IYKYK |
As of this posting, I have completed two days of work.
I just completed my required compliance trainings for the year - and some weren't due until November! I thought I may as well just get it over with.
I'm starting to do "real" work too. That's the part I like. I'm joining meetings and I'm not completely lost, so that's good. I'm working on actual input documents and let me tell you. Working for a small company with little to no processes...is starkly different than working for a financial institution...the back up documentation, proof or "artifacts" that I need to include...the stringent rules and regulations. So much to think of.
But it's all good and exciting! I'm loving it so far.
The paycheck is fucking awesome, too.
All that's left for me is retirement and health insurance stuff. I have a Q&A meeting on health insurance this week so I'll be able to sign up for that and get that out of the way.
Retirement and stocks will require a bit more homework but I have some good options to research.
I feel so lucky that I landed this position. I mean...considering how my life has been the last 6 months...I mean. I wasn't expecting anything super positive to come my way.
I feel so...grateful. Just grateful.
