I think I mentioned it before.
We didn't sign the girls up for any sort of camp this year.
They have always done something - whether it be just regular daycare or day camp.
It wasn't only for them, but for us as well, since we both work full time.
This is the first summer we decided not to sign them up for anything.
A few reasons added to this decision: 1) my mom is now local and has offered to keep them for 1-3 days each week if we need. She loves this and takes them out all the time - it'd be different if she were a grandma that couldn't or wouldn't go place or do things. She got them memberships for
The Strong Museum of Play, which is an amazing indoor play space. It's HUGE and wildly popular around here. It's one of the largest and most highly interactive play areas in the nation. You can easily spend half day or full day there.
They usually go there, then get McD's for dinner on the way home.
She has also taken them to the Fish Hatchery at the park near her home, and of course, they all love a good trip to Target.
2) Steve is home 4 days a week - as usual. So it's really only 3 days a week that we "need" something. Considering I work from home, I can generally be around to make food for them, hang with them for a bit, etc. but it's nearly impossible for me to really focus on work if they are home. They are simply too loud. Someone always wants something. If they start fighting - I can't even. I get so frustrated.
So between Steve and my mom and the fact that they are older now and can entertain themselves for a bit, we opted to have a casual, open summer.
That being said, we want to make sure they get to really experience "summer vacation" and not just bum around watching TV all day.
Luckily for us, we have a pool and we are in it daily.
We are also lucky enough to have a waterpark close to our house.
So we got season passes for Steve and the girls.
I joined them last week and it was awesome.
We were the first people there.
So it was empty.

Like, EMPTY. The girls loved the waves! Considering they were the ONLY people in the huge wave pool! |

The place is about 10 minutes from our house and is the perfect size water park. Not huge, but big enough. It sucks that the Lazy River has been closed so far this season - guessing that they may not have enough life guards? But that's my favorite, so it sucks that it's closed.
Because they got season passes, we don't feel bad for "only" spending a couple of hours there. If we had to buy tickets each time, I'd feel the need to "get the most out of it" and spend the day there.
I cannot believe we're basically half way through Summer already!
