My office is closed on the 4th and 5th in observance of the holiday, and then I took Wednesday, the 6th off as well.
Now that Steve is home on weekends we've been completely enjoying spending time with him.
The girls started out with berry picking with my mom on Friday. I had brought them to their Well-Child visit that morning, and it was close to the farm where we pick berries. They were able to spend a few hours with her and get some yummy berries too!
Saturday we wanted to hit up the fireworks in the town we grew up in as kids. We've been going to this firework event for so many years and have taken the girls a couple of times. It's been hard because fireworks don't even start until 10pm, but both kids hung in there and completely enjoyed themselves this year.
While I was waiting in what seemed like the longest line EVER for Fried Dough, we ran into some of our friends! So we ended up sitting with them for the firework show.
Despite being the longest line ever, it went kinda fast |

Had to get them the gear |
We were also planning on boating with these same friends the following day, so it was fun to start our weekend a bit early by hanging with them that night.
Sunday was our big boating day. We had 3 families on 2 boats.
The water was rough out in the lake, but in the point, it was gorgeous.
The air temperature was not hot - it was mid-70's, but BRIGHT sunshine. Like, not a cloud in the sky.
The water was quite cold.
But it was a beautiful day on the water with our friends and I couldn't have asked for more.
We left the water around 6pm and went back to Rich and Trista's for pizza and wings.
They were going to head back out to watch fireworks at 10pm, but we were heading home.
Ava was spent - she slept in the truck the entire time we were at their house.
We made it home around 9pm - it was a long, but super fun day.
Monday was the 4th. We planned to stay in Canandaigua that day.
It was a beautiful day and we headed out to the parade at 10am.
This guy had a dog and a kid with him in the side car. Hilarious! |
All this being said, I don't want it to appear that I'm completely ignorant and live under a rock.
There isn't much to celebrate.
Our rights have been stripped entirely and it makes me sick.
It makes me sick.
SICK.
I have so many thoughts and opinions on the matter and it's just too much.
So, while this holiday should be used to celebrate our "great" country, I used it to spend time with the people I care about.
Family and Friends.
Hopefully we turn this world around so our kids can live the life they deserve.
