Holiday Birthday Party

Ava's 8th birthday is quickly approaching and each year it sneaks up on me.

It's 5 days before Christmas and it really sucks to have a birthday that close to a major holiday.

We try really hard to separate the two and to never, ever lump them together.

We want to celebrate Ava and the day of her birth. And surviving another year around the sun.

We make sure to wrap presents in birthday wrapping paper and do a theme that's unrelated to Christmas.

BUT.

This year?

This year she made her own real friends this year and we're so excited for her.

She wanted to do a sleepover at our house.

Some sort of activity, craft. Then of course movies, popcorn, snacks, etc. All the snacks. I'm going to make a fun "Snackuterie board" for them.

We were at Walmart the other day picking up a few things.

Steve actually had a good idea. We were brainstorming what craft or activity we could do.

Steve mentioned getting each kid their own Gingerbread House (or whatever). Now, generally, I would not be OK since it's a Christmas activity.

But we asked Ava what she thought and she loved the idea.

Ok, so that's that.

We will be doing a Gingerbread Theme.

I ordered the decorations and have picked up 6 Gingerbread kits so far.

Invites have been sent out.

Ava is anticipating her birthday party and is so excited!

She has 2 or 3 of her friends coming and 2 of Mila's friends (the Twins, who are now back from Australia).

We have all the kits and decorations and all that ready to go.

I have to clean the house like woah. I know a bunch of kids won't really care, but I will care.
The party was a huge success.

I'm SO happy Ava had friends (her own friends) come over and the two who came could sleep over. Ava was over the moon.

Friday the girls had a half day of school and I had Ava's parent/teacher conference that afternoon.

It was super quiet at work (it usually is) so I told Ava we'd use that time to decorate for her party. Get the house in order.

So we did! We opted not to hang things from the ceilings with tape just yet, since I didn't want them to fall before the party.

But, we got ourselves organized.

Ava was pumped.

Saturday I was moving non-stop.

I had to stop at Wegmans and Walmart for a couple of last-minute things. Like tablecloths. I wasn't planning on it but MAN I'm SO glad I got them.

The frosting and candy was legit everywhereeeeeee.

Anyway.

I got home and start to clean. I cleaned the entire downstairs and had the girls clean the upstairs. Vacuumed the whole house.

I cleaned their bathroom since there would be 6 girls using it.

Then we got to decorating!

Found these adorable wall decals. I hope they come off easily.

All the snacks and candy

We ordered pizza, wings and chicken fingers for everyone for dinner.

We had cake for dessert.

I planned on making cupcakes but realized I left my cupcake pan at my mom's. I would've normally panicked, but I just changed courses. Did a heart cake instead.

Ava insisted on decorating it too.

Make a wish!

Time for presents!

Big kids watched a movie while the little ones were playing upstairs

Mila and her BFF

The littles preparing for bed and a movie

The kids were all in PJs by probably 9pm. We let the littles watch TV in Ava's room and Mila and her friends hung out in her room.

It was quiet in the house by 10:30.

Steve said he got up around 1am and didn't hear a sound.

I got up at 7am Sunday in order to get breakfast going for everyone.

Some morning monopoly.

Steve being goofy and letting the girls inhale helium. lol.

The kids started to get picked up around 10am. The twins (Mila's friends) stayed and Steve brought them home later that afternoon.

Ava had such a great time and I'm so, so happy for her.

I had made plans to meet up with my BFF in Syracuse, so once the littles got picked up, I headed out.

The party-planning anxiety is over and it's a relief. I have a happy girl.

Of course the weather goes to shit on my way there. It was fine most of the way and got shitty about 20 minutes outside of Syracuse. It was fine.

I got home before dinnertime and Ava was partied out.

she can't hang, lol

They did a quick dinner, shower, and headed up to bed.

What a weekend!

We celebrate her actual birthday next week!

I can't believe my Bubba is almost 8.
