GETTING READY FOR VACATION!
I'm not the only type A person going on this trip.
We started a Google Sheets doc for our organizational needs.
It's hilarious. Steve won't even look at it.
He won't even talk to me about it.
He would be 100% fine grabbing a shirt and heading up.
Just like Mila said for her sleepover a while back and when I told her to go pack, she went up, grabbed one thing of PJs, came down and announced "I'm ready."
Like, what the fuck?
No, no you're not fucking ready.
Go back upstairs and pack a legit overnight bag.
For fuck's sake.
They are the same.
ANYWAY.
Haha. Check this out. Now, I only started a simple excel doc. This was taken WAY outta control. LOL but I love it.
Now, as any parent knows, packing for a family for any amount of time takes effort. And organization. And a little bit of skill.
Our family has some particulars, of course.
Like everyone's freaking allergies.
And skin irritations.
And medical issues that require medication.
And omg. Just so much shit.
But, being who I am and how I've been organizing for years, here's what I've found to work for our family.
Baggies.
Bag with all of our medications (Benadryl and Epi Pen - DUH, Ava's daily allergy med, Ibuprofen, adult allergy pills, need to get the Aleve in there)...
Topical stuff: all natural sunscreen from Goddess Garden. Natural insect repellant, a new lotion we're trying out on Ava (seems to be working!) and of course, Aquaphor (which, I'm now questioning any "hidden" ingredients that might make Ava flare - that's an entirely other post).
Packing 6 towels for the 4 of us. Figured we'd need it.
Ava's outfits, labeled.
My goal is to use only one (large) suitcase for our entire family. We are only gone for 4 days, but you know, with kids...you need a lot of stuff! Always be prepared for messes, accidents, you know. Just stuff.
I'd rather be prepared.
I was successful in fitting all our clothing and towels in our large suitcase. I use large garbage bags for sheets, towels, blankets. Reusable Wegmans bags for other things like toiletries.
LOL. Literally this is 100% Ava.
We are also planning on taking Steve's truck, the Expedition (my old daily driver). Even though it's older (and um... now grosser), it is larger and more comfy for road trips. It'll allow us to spread out a little and have room for our luggage and cooler and stuff.
I told him he needed it professionally cleaned out first. I am also afraid each time I step on the running boards, fearing they will just break away from the rust that runs the entire length of each side.
That truck's got 200,000 miles on it.
And we're taking it on a road trip.
Well, we didn't have time to get it professionally cleaned, so guess who did it?
So, there's a certain amount of filth that is just not going to come off of this truck. It's a 2008 with over 200,000 miles on it.
However, I vacuumed it all out - front, middle, back, cargo area.
I used leather conditioner on all the seats (removed all car seats prior).
I used cleaner spray for the interior.
I even cleaned the inside and outside of all of the windows.
I Rain-X'd the front windshield.
Installed the "higher end" car seats for a more comfy ride.
I should've gotten a pic after we had it packed, but we were rushing out the door!
More on Day 1 later.
